Flax for a bio-based economy

The TIS action flax cultivation and processing for a bio-based economy in Flanders unites the three sectors involved in the production and processing of flax (agricultural sector, the flax processing sector and the consumers of linseed (oil).

This initiative launched by Centexbel in collaboration with ILVO Vlaanderen and the Research cell "Synthesis and Bioresources Chemistry" of the university of Gent aims at:

• defining the main research themes (quality improvement, better competitive position, product development and the search of new markets and application fields)
• improving the communication between these three sectors and with their scientific actors: better information flow and exact definition of common research themes
• encouraging a traditional sector to switch to an economically healthier 'high-tech' sector
• and creating a unique flax cultivation in Flanders and sustainable product development
