made in Green: distinguishing label for sustainable production
‘made in Green’ stands for healthy textiles produced in an ecologically and socially responsible way. Producers labelling their products 'made in Green' distinguish themselves positively in a globalised textile market.
Thanks to the ‘made in Green’ labelled products, consumers can now choose for healthy textile products, manufactured in conformity with the international rules regarding environment and social respect.
‘made in Green’ is based on three conditions to be fulfilled:
Product:
Absence of harmful substances: the textile product must have obtained an Oeko-Tex-100 certificate.
Environment:
Respect for the environment in each production step (from spinning mill onward): the product must have been manufactured in production sites with ISO 14001, Oeko-Tex 1000, EMAS or equivalent certification of an environmental management system.
Social:
Respect of human rights and of the universal workers' rights according to the International Labour Organisation in all production centres
The product must have been manufactured in centres certified by an external and independent recognised body, with a code of conduct and social responsibility, based on the international standard SA8000.
In short, in order to obtain and display the "made in Green" label, a textile article must have obtained an Oeko-Tex-100 certificate and the product must have been manufactured in production centres with a certified environmental management system and a code of conduct and social responsibility, certified by an external and independent recognised body.
The ‘made in Green’ label was launched in 2006 by Aitex, the technical textile institute of the region of Valencia (Spain).
Since July 2007 Centexbel has signed an agreement with Aitex to promote and issue the label to the production sites in our region.
