User-centered thinking: also to influence purchase decisions
Each and every salesman has been there: although he has the feeling that the buyer is convinced by his sales talks, he later receives a negative reply. It’s not easy to find out where it went wrong, and yet the reason is obvious. A purchaser does not decide single-handedly. All kinds of stakeholders within the company often have a strong influence on the decision. This network of persons is also called the purchaser’s eco-system.
If you've ever applied for a patent, or if you've ever had the intention to do so, then you will know that it may take a very long time. For a patent application filed in Belgium, for example, it takes some 18 months before the patent is granted. Automatically, it will take longer to enjoy a tax reduction form patent revenues. At the same time, a rapidly granted patent will help preventing infringements.
Trade marks: Commission proposes easier access and more effective protection
On March 27th, 2013, the European Commission has presented a package of initiatives to make trade mark registration systems all over the European Union cheaper, quicker, more reliable and predictable. The proposed reform would improve conditions for businesses to innovate and to benefit from more effective trade mark protection against counterfeits, including fake goods in transit through the EU's territory.
The Select Committee of the Administrative Council of the European Patent Organisation dealing with the unitary patent held its first session today at the EPO in Munich. For the user community and for the EPO, this is a further milestone after the adoption of the unitary patent package in December 2012 and the signing last month of the international agreement on the Unified Patent Court.

NFPA 701 - Fire Tests for flame Propagation of Textiles and Films
NFPA 701 is a method to determine the burning behaviour of curtains and has been performed in the USA since many years. In the meantime, the method has been drastically adapted.
The standard includes a small-scale and a large-scale test. The largest demand is for the small-scale test (method 1).

On 10 December 2012 the Council adopted a Resolution on the EU Customs Action Plan to Combat IPR Infringements for the Years 2013-2017.
The strategic objectives of this Action Plan are the following:
- Effectively implementing and monitoring the new EU legislation on customs enforcement of IPR;
- Tackling major trends in trade of IPR infringing goods;
- Tackling trade of IPR infringing goods throughout the international supply chain;
With regard to product certification according to Oeko-Tex® Standard 100, the Oeko-Tex® Association has updated the applicable test criteria and limit values at the beginning of the year. After a three-month transitional period the following new regulations will come into force for all certification procedures on 1 April 2013.
