Vamutex, a textile company based in Herdersem near the city of Aalst, has been working intensely over the last two years to develop a light-emitting tape. Using an innovative process they have created a flexible luminescent tape that can be washed and stiched!

Ghent, March 1, 2016 – CENTEXBEL, the Belgian research centre for textiles and plastics, and IBA, the global leading supplier of electron beam and X-ray solutions for industrial applications, located in Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve, are the Belgian partners in BIO4SELF, the newly approved European Horizon 2020 project.

Roadshow langs de Factories of the Future

Sinds 4 februari telt België zeven nieuwe fabrieken van de toekomst. Deze sterke bedrijven hebben ervoor gekozen om hun competitiviteit te verhogen aan de hand van geïntegreerde transformatietrajecten uit het Made Different-actieplan. In die trajecten zijn ze nu zo ver gevorderd dat ze aan de criteria voldoen om 'Factory of the Future' te worden genoemd.

New fees for European Union trade marks

From 23 March 2016 onward, the Office will be called the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the Community trade mark will be called the European Union trade mark.

New tariffication "Pay for what you need":

The fee system at the EUIPO will change from the fee system applied by OHIM. The system will change from a basic fee that covers up to three classes of goods and services to a "pay-per-class" system.

Ontex Eeklo wint Factory of the Future Award 2016

Tijdens de uitreiking van de ‘Factory of the Future Awards 2016’ op 4 februari in Antwerpen werd de vooruitstrevende bedrijfspolitiek van Ontex Eeklo bekroond met een award. Jef Monballyu, manager van de Ontex-vestiging in Eeklo, was bijzonder trots de award in ontvangst te mogen nemen. Hij benadrukte dat dit de beloning is voor de inzet van alle medewerkers op alle niveaus binnen het bedrijf.

Restriction of NPE in Textile Products

On 14 January, 2016, the European Commission published a regulation in the Official Journal of the EU to restrict the use of nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPE) in textile articles and to amend Annex XVII to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH). The restriction prohibits the articles containing a concentration of nonylphenol ethoxylates NPEs equal to or more than 0.01% (100 mg/kg) of the textile article or of each part of the textile article that can reasonably be expected to be washed in water during its normal lifecycle.

Succesfull collaboration with Dutch designers duo

Designer jeans: a term that has become as "mainstream" as any "mainstream" jeans. But, by saying this, one has overlooked Dutch designers duo G+N. Instead of stitching the seams, they simply glue them together, and they lay on the glue very thickly, indeed! Their unique look has been awarded by the 2008 Dutch Design Award.

PPE harmonised Standards

A new list of harmonised standards related to the PPE Directive has been published on 11th December 2015.

The new versions of the below standards are now harmonized:

  • EN ISO 11611:2015
  • EN ISO 11612:2015
  • EN ISO 14116:2015

Please note that technical files submitted before 31/1/2016 can still be certified according to the previous version of these standards.

As from 1/2/2016, the new harmonised versions apply.

Belgium introduces new patent taxes on 1/1/2016

Belgium will abolish several obsolete taxes on patents. So far the good news. The bad news is however that the annual taxes on patents will slightly increase. Anyway, this must not keep you from applying for a Belgian patent.
