Turkey joins CEN

The General Assembly of CEN has recently accepted Turkey as the 32nd full member of the European Committee of Standardisation (CEN). This means that Turkey will implement all existing and future EN standards as national Turkish standards.

The official affiliation will take place on January 1st, 2012 and the new member will throw its weight into the balance. Indeed, during a weighted voting procedure, Turkey will dispose of 29 votes, which puts them on the same level as Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom.

In comparison: Belgium has 12 votes.

Next to Turkey, CEN is composed of the 27 EU member states, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Croatia.
