New rules in standardisation

From 1 January 2015 onward, new rules will apply in the approval procedure of new European standards. In fact, the rules applying in ISO will be adopted for the larger part. The reason to do so is to reduce the increasing pressure to reduce the time needed for the development of standards. By focusing on the first phases of the standardisation process, the steering at the end of the process will become more difficult.

OHIM introduces Fast Track for trade mark applications

Starting on 24 November, OHIM will offer trade mark applicants the opportunity to have their applications examined and published faster. This accelerated procedure is known as Fast Track and will be available free of charge to applicants who comply with certain conditions, such as paying upfront and selecting their goods and services from OHIM's database of accepted terms.

Spanish local tv covers the project SustAffor

The aim of the SustAffor project (Bridging effectiveness and sustainability in afforestation / reforestation in a climate change context: new technologies for improving soil features and plant performance) is to design, produce, develop and validate on-field novel techniques to improve tree planting projects from an environmental, technical and economic point of view.

The video of the local Catalunya television network also includes an interview with Luc Ruys of Centexbel on the use of agrotextiles in afforestation projects.

European Commission film about At~Sea project

On May 27 and June 2, a film crew from the European Commission visited partners OCEAN and SIOEN to make a 3-minute video on the AT~SEA project. It includes images from the test site at OCEAN and from the substrate production at SIOEN as well as interviews with partners OCEAN, SIOEN and CENTEXBEL.

Symposium Techtextil 2015 - Call for Papers

The symposium will be held concurrently with Techtextil - International Trade Fair for Technical Textiles and Nonwovens - and Texprocess - Leading International Trade Fair for Processing Textile and Flexible Materials - in Frankfurt am Main.

EU waste review proposal

On 2 July 2014, the European Commission adopted a legislative proposal and annex to review recycling and other waste-related targets in the EU Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC, the Landfill Directive 1999//31/EC and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive 94/62/EC.

The aim of the proposal is to help turn Europe into a circular economy, boost recycling, secure access to raw materials and create jobs and economic growth. It does so by setting ambitious targets and adding key provisions on the instruments to achieve and to monitor them. The proposal is presented as part of the circular economy package.
