Determination of formaldehyde

Important notice

formaldehyde_0.gif
Because of a change in the Japanese industrial standard JIS L 1041(July 2011), the Oeko-Tex® method (Oeko-Tex® standard 201 M-8 based on JIS L 1041) for the determination of the content of formaldehyde, will be modified accordingly.

As from April 1st, 2012 the conditioning step prior to the analysis of the sample will no longer be necessary. This may result in a higher concentration of measured formaldehyde in the sample, compared to the previous method.

The changed method does not imply a change in the requirements for formaldehyde:

  • Class I : ≤ 16 mg/kg
  • Class II : ≤ 75 mg/kg
  • Class III - IV : ≤ 300 mg/kg

Please be aware that there is a possibility that samples, that use to meet the Oeko-Tex® requirement for formaldehyde in the past, will no longer meet this requirement by using the modified method.

Please take this information into consideration when producing Oeko-Tex® certified goods.
