Garinsul: Multifunctional protective clothing
Personal safety is becoming an increasingly important issue. The risk of electrocution and the risk of explosion in a possibly explosive atmosphere must be reduced to a minimum.
In its research field "Health, Safety and Security" Centexbel deals with both risks.
The actual trend, supported by the European Commission is to design multifunctional garments capable of protecting against both risks. Such garments are indispensable for fire-fighters and to a certain extent for technical workers who have to operate in explosive atmospheres and in the proximity of sources of lethal electrical tensions.
Unfortunately, the presently applied standards do not reckon with both aspects at the same time and therefore it is very difficult to comply with them.
