Fibre-reinforced plastics or composites are applied in an increasing number of products all over the world.
The advantages of composites over metals are:
- lightness: high specific strength and stiffness
- large freedom of form
- high resistance to fatigue
- good themal resistance
- corrosion free
With this rechearch project, conducted by Centexbel in collaboration with Sirris, we would like to collect knowledge on the basic products and process parameters, to optimise the process parameters and predict the reinforcing fabric's behaviour during the shaping and to elaborate a process simulation progamme.
The advantages of fibre-reinforced thermplastic materials may have a large impact on the composite sector.
This project aims at an accellerated introduction of thermoplastic composite materials in the Flemish industry.
