The TEX2CE project 'from linear to circular textiles' aims to encourage textile companies to reuse their current products at end-of-life.
The project also looks for new products that can definitely be recycled or reused. The ultimate goal of TEX2CE is to reduce textile waste and to reduce textile incineration.
The aim of this COOCK initiative is to introduce the textile industry to different facets of the circular economy and to demonstrate the feasibility of various recycling routes in order to stimulate the transition from a linear to a circular model.
Substantial knowledge about the state of the art of textile waste recycling and a clear and well defined analysis of opportunities and challenges for the Flemish textile and clothing industry are the objectives of this project.
TEX2CE assists textile companies to take the step towards the circular economy by:
- bringing together the entire value chain to set up at least 5 value chains
- understanding all aspects of the circular economy, i.e. the 7 Rs: rethink, refuse, reduce, reuse, repair, repurpose, recycle is a necessity for companies to make the best choice for their product
- demonstrating the potential of 5 different recycling technologies for 4 different textile materials for 5 end-use applications
- demonstrating the applicability of 4 recyclate streams, and developing 5 mono-material textile products
- cost/benefit analysis of 3 generic demonstrators as well as their environmental impact
