There are several test standards in Europe for testing the burning behaviour of upholstered furniture, each with its own specifications, requirements and classifications, including:
- EN 1021-1 and EN 1021-2
- DIN 66084
- ÖNORM B 3825
- NF D 60-013
- UNI 9175 (CSE RF 4/83)
The lack of European legislation leads to differences in burning behaviour testing across Europe.
UK
In the UK, the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 apply to domestic upholstered furniture.
For the contract and non-domestic sectors, the British Standard BS 7176: 2007 is used for testing upholstered furniture.
