France has extended the temporary restriction of formamide in toy puzzle mats for yet another period of 12 months. The new law took effect on 26 October 2015. In December 2010, France and Belgium were the first two EU member states to have toy puzzle mats containing more than 200 mg/kg of formamide (CAS 75-12-7) removed from the market. Formamide is classified as "reprotoxic 1B" under EC Regulation 1272/2008 on the Classification, Labelling and Packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP Regulation). Centexbel assesses the presence of even the smallest quantities of formamide and other substances in toys and other consumer goods.
