Coating & Finishing Technologies add new functions, features or properties to materials (textiles, plastics, paper, composites, etc.) by changing their surface chemistry or structure to meet the requirements of the final application. These new functions, features or properties include waterproofing, breathability, antimicrobial properties, hydrophobicity, flame retardancy, conductivity, and others.
High-Performance Materials are created by applying finishes or coatings to substrates to improve or modify their properties and performance.
Sustainability includes the use of renewable materials and non-hazardous chemicals and additives (REACH, CLP compliant), energy and water efficient production methods and product longevity.
The Coating & Finishing Technologies R&D Team is dedicated to uniting sustainability, exceptional performance and cost effectiveness in the fields of finishing, coating, laminating and printing.
Our research initiatives are thus focusing on:
- Developing and using bio-based, biodegradable and sustainable materials in our coatings and ink formulations
- Use of innovative finishes, coatings and inks to functionalise materials
- Adopting cutting-edge, environmentally friendly technologies such as hot melt, UV and LED curing and plasma coating
- Facilitating the recycling of multilayer materials by separating layers or applying eco-design principles
- Enhancing adhesion between different materials through plasma or chemical treatments
To serve the industry, we have created an extensive pilot platform for textile finishing, coating, laminating, dyeing and printing.
