BioColEol

BioColEol focuses on developing bio-based dyes from curcumin and other carotenoids. These dyes will be used in biopolymers for textiles and packaging. In addition, end-of-life options for these materials will be explored. The project focuses on developing and demonstrating bio-based raw materials in packaging and textile materials, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and circularity.

The project is coordinated by Centexbel and runs from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2028.

The increasing demand for raw materials is pushing our planet to its limits. Sustainable systems and products are necessary to meet societal needs, especially in the textile and packaging industries. These sectors face specific requirements such as comfort, washability, food preservation, and product safety.

The Belgium-Netherlands border region plays a crucial role in the chemical industry and has a strong logistical infrastructure but faces global and regional challenges such as the COVID pandemic, energy crisis, and climate change.

BioColEol aligns with European, national, and regional policies, such as the European Green Deal, Circular Plastic Alliance, and Circular Biobased Europe Joint Undertaking.

The project supports companies in transitioning to a bio-based circular economy, reducing CO₂ emissions, and promoting sustainable development.
