Pioneering in Chemical Safety and Sustainability

In 2024, Centexbel reinforced its commitment to environmental and consumer safety by advancing testing methods for hazardous substances in textiles and plastics. Notably, the launch of ST4RLAB, our state-of-the-art laboratory, positions Centexbel at the forefront of chemical screening in recycled materials—enabling non-target screening and high-resolution spectroscopy for precise detection of PFAS, plasticizers, and flame retardants.

Impressive Research & Development Milestones

Centexbel participated in 91 R&D projects, collaborating with nearly 480 partners from academia, research institutes, and industry.

Our key initiatives focused on:
  • Bio-based and circular materials.
  • Advanced finishing and coating technologies promoting non-toxic, biodegradable solutions.
  • Textile innovations, such as smart wearables for stress monitoring in therapy and antimicrobial textiles with high durability.

The M-Pure® mattress ticking, a non-chemical, bio-based flame-retardant treatment developed with Maes Mattress Ticking, exemplifies how collective research can lead to market-ready solutions.

Technological Investments for the Future

Our strategic investments included:
  • SpinLite labscale melt-spinning line in Kortrijk for developing novel polymer filaments.
  • High Pressure Test Bench in Grâce-Hollogne to validate composite pipe liners.
  • K303 Multicoater to enhance coating on various substrates, using flexography and rotogravure inks.
  • Installation of 228 solar panels, covering over 22% of electricity consumption at our Grâce-Hollogne site, affirming our commitment to renewable energy.

Knowledge Sharing and Global Engagement

Our expert teams hosted high-profile events, including the 4th International Conference on a Circular Economy for Textiles and Plastics in Oostende. In addition, we gained international momentum with the acquisition of Slovakian textile research institute VUTCH, expanding our testing and certification reach.

Looking Ahead

As sustainability standards tighten and innovation accelerates, Centexbel continues to be a reliable partner for industry, combining deep scientific knowledge with advanced testing infrastructure. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our team, partners, and stakeholders whose dedication made 2024 a standout year.
