Researchers from Centexbel and the University of Liège have developed innovative, biodegradable wound dressings made from ultra-thin polycaprolactone (PCL) fibers infused with the antibiotic polymyxin B. Using a simple one-step electrospinning process and only FDA-approved components, these dressings combine strong antibacterial activity with excellent biocompatibility. By adjusting the solvent system, scientists can fine-tune fiber properties and control how the drug is released—starting with a quick initial burst followed by steady delivery over a week. 

This scalable technology offers a promising solution for treating infected or high-risk wounds.
