Field of invention
The invention relates to packaging for disinfectable or steriliseable objects. Additionally, it relates to the transportation of disinfected or sterilised objects.
Problem
In healthcare, maintaining the sterility of medical tools is vital to prevent infections. While steam and UVC radiation are common disinfection methods, challenges persist. Instruments risk recontamination after sterilization, especially during handling and transport.
UVC disinfection, though effective, is dangerous to humans, has limited reach, and requires direct exposure.
Moreover, keeping items sterile during transport is difficult due to environmental exposure, surface contact, or even mix-ups, all of which can compromise hygiene and patient safety.
Solution
The invention introduces a specially designed packaging made from a UVC-transmissive thermoplastic polymer. This material allows UVC radiation to penetrate and disinfect both the object and the air inside the sealed packaging—without needing to open it. Its thickness (10–60 µm) ensures a balance between strength and radiation permeability.
A built-in photochromic indicator visibly changes color upon UVC exposure, confirming successful disinfection at a glance.
The packaging also includes sterile compartments to keep contents isolated and uncontaminated during transport.
Advantages
- Enables effective sterilization through UVC-permeable material.
- Minimizes recontamination risk with sealed, sterile compartments.
- Built-in colour-changing indicator confirms disinfection visually.
- Durable yet flexible design supports safe handling and transport.
- Enhances trust in hygiene protocols with clear, reliable verification.
