EN71-1(2014) + A1(2018) §8.15

This test is designed to address the hazards associated with pierced teething rings and similar products where the child may come in contact with liquids that are contaminated or become contaminated by perforation.

This test is not applicable to electrolytes in batteries, nor to paint and finger paints or similar products contained in jars.

Teething rings filled with a liquid should have a warning that the teething ring should not be placed in a freezer compartment.

Principle

  • After applying a certain force to the external surface of the toy through a steel needle over a certain period, the toy is examined for leakage of the contents.
  • The toy is visually assessed and it is determined whether leakage of its contents has occurred.
