ASTM D2061-07(2021)

Principle

ASTM D2061-07(2021) outlines a series of standardized methods to evaluate the mechanical strength of zippers. It aims to assess their suitability and durability for different textile applications (apparel, luggage, upholstery, etc.) by simulating real-world stress and strain conditions.

The main goals are to:

  • Ensure zippers can withstand common forces during use (pulling, twisting, closing/opening, etc.).
  • Compare different zipper products in terms of strength performance.
  • Detect design or material weaknesses that might lead to failure.

Test Methods:

This standard includes multiple mechanical strength tests, each addressing a different aspect of zipper performance: 

  1. Holding Strengths of Separable Units
  2. Holding Strength of Slider Lock
  3. Holding Strength of Stops
  4. Resistance to Angular Pull-Off of Slider Pull
  5. Resistance to Cushioned Compression of Sliders
