CISUTAC

To guarantee a representative view on the challenges of the textile sector, we focus on

• polyester, cotton, and cellulosic fibres (ca. 90% of all textile materials)
• garments, active goods (e.g. sportswear), and workwear. 

The holistic approach of CISUTAC covers the technical, sector-related and socio-economic levels for which we will provide systemic innovations and pilots.

The innovation and pilots will demonstrate their feasibility and value for:

1. Repair and disassembly
2. Sorting for reuse and recycling
3. Circular garments through fibre-to-fibre recycling and design for circularity 

To create these pilots, we will develop semi-automated workstations, analyse infrastructure and material flows, digitally enhance sorting operations and set up interventions with consumers

The results of the piloting phase will be taken up by the sector, by the wider stakeholder group as well by the consumers.

• reduce CO₂ by ca. 975 kton per year
• create new business activities and markets with a shared value of ca. € 250mio
• as well as 1300 FTE jobs, also in the social economy.

Led by Centexbel, the Belgian research centre for textiles and plastics, the CISUTAC consortium is EU-wide, and includes global leading brands and companies, Civil Society Organisations, Research and Technology Organisations and EU associations.
