Flammability of Apparel Textiles according to ASTM D1230-22

All fabrics made of natural or regenerated cellulose, as well as many made from other natural or man-made fibers, are combustible. Some combustible fabrics when used for clothing are potentially dangerous to the wearer because of such factors as ease of ignition, flame spread time, amount of heat released, and design of the garment. This test measures two such factors: ease of ignition and flame spread time.

Burning behaviour

Flammability of toys according to EN71-2

The European Standard EN 71:2 specifies the categories of flammable materials which are prohibited in all toys, and requirements concerning flammability of certain toys when they are subjected to a small source of ignition.

Burning behaviour

Flexibility of metallic wires according to EN71-1 §8.13

Metal wires in toys should not pose a risk of injury.

Physical lab

Flexometer Scrub Test according to EN ISO 5981:2008

Rubber or plastics coated fabrics - Determination of resistance to combined shear flexing and rubbing

Physical lab

Floorcovering Classification according to EN 1307:2014

Floorcovering classification based on practical requirements for areas of use and intensity of use.

Floor & wallcovering

Formaldehyde emissions from wallpaper and wallcoverings according to JIS A 6921:2014

The Japanese Industrial Standard JIS A 6921:2014 outlines the requirements for wallpaper and wallcoverings used in interior decoration, including the determination of formaldehyde emissions.

Chemical lab

Fourier-Transformation-IR Spectroscopy (FTIR)

IR (infrared)-spectroscopy is a form of spectroscopy which is specifically active in the infrared part of the electromagnetic spectra.

Plastic characterization

Hardness of Plastics and Rubbers according to ISO 48-4:2018

Hardness is defined as a material’s resistance to permanent indentation. It is one of the most measured parameters and often reported on technical data sheets of plastics and rubbers.

Plastic characterization

Heat removal rate of personal cooling systems using a sweating heated manikin according to ASTM F2371-16 (2024)

Quantitative method for measuring the Heat Removal Rate (HRR) of clothing ensembles using a sweating thermal manikin. This is especially important for evaluating garments designed for hot environments, such as cooling garments (e.g., liquid-cooled or air-cooled clothing).

Physical lab

High Pressure Burst Test for composite liners according to ISO 8521-08

Determining the resistance to internal pressure of thermoplastic pipes, fittings, and assemblies

056-TEST scope granted by BELAC

The scope consists of a fixed scope, including test and product standards, and of a flexible scope, where no specific reference to the standard is included.

Flexible Scope

Accredited tests included in the flexible scope have a specific code mentioned in the first column (e.g. B001). Centexbel has a detailed list of these tests where a direct link between the specific codes, the test and product standards can be found.

On page 30/31 of the 056-TEST scope, BELAC states:

The laboratory is authorized to determine, under accreditation, the measured properties/parameters belonging to the specified group of measured properties/parameters for the products/matrices belonging to the specified group of products/matrices, using methods that utilize the specified test or measurement principle or measurement technique. This authorization is granted on the condition that appropriate validation and/or verification has been performed in accordance with the overall validation and/or verification concept, as established in the laboratory's management system and the provisions of BELAC 2-002 and BELAC 2-101. The laboratory maintains, for each applicant, an updated and detailed list of the specific tests (in terms of specific measured properties/parameters belonging to the specified group of measured properties/parameters, specific products/matrices belonging to the specified group of products/matrices, and specific test methods) performed under accreditation.
