Bt Cotton

Bt cotton is a genetically modified organism (GMO) or genetically modified pest resistant plant cotton variety, which produces an insecticide to combat bollworm, where "Bt" refers to the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis.

Bt-katoen is genetisch gemodificeerde katoen die een gen van de bodembacterie Bacillus thuringiensis bevat waardoor de planten een insectengif maken.

Les cotonniers Bt sont des cultivars de cotonnier de l'espèce Gossypium hirsutum qui ont été modifiées génétiquement par l'ajout du gène leur conférant la capacité de produire un insecticide. Le terme « Bt » fait référence au Bacillus thuringiensis dont le gène codant la protéine insecticide a été extrait.
