In order to label an FFP or respiratory protection mask with the CE marking, the notified body needs to make sure that the performance criteria as defined by EN 149: 2001 + A1: 2009 are respected.

Centexbel is a BELAC accredited lab to perform the necessary tests.

EN 149: 2001 + A1: 2009 distinguishes between 3 levels of classification for FFP masks, including to the penetration level of the filter layer and breathing resistance of the mask:

FFP penetration
FFP table 3

The EN149 consists of various tests as described below:

8.1 General

8.2 Visual inspection

8.3 Conditioning

8.4 Practical performance

8.5 Total Inward Leakage

8.6 Flammability

8.7 Carbon dioxide content of the inhalation air

8.8 Strength of attachment of exhalation valve housing
